Successful turnaround keeps Pluto on track for Scarborough gas
Welcome to a new and improved Pluto.
Following one of our largest and most complex maintenance campaigns, the Pluto LNG Plant is preparing for the start of its next exciting chapter – to process gas from the Scarborough field some 430 kilometres away.
For over a month, more than 1,500 Woodsiders and contractors worked on the turnaround (a planned maintenance program) to maintain, modify and upgrade critical infrastructure.
“The scale and complexity were on a different level to what we normally deliver and required a one team approach from planning through to execution,” said Paul Ulyett, Woodside Turnaround Manager.
“Safety is always our top priority and to accumulate more than 400,000 hours without a lost-time injury during the turnaround reflects an extraordinary collective safety effort across site.”

Innovation was front and centre and included a custom plug designed to safely isolate the trunkline, enabling valve replacements at the onshore end.
In total, more than 1,500 work scopes were completed, along with 400 certificates and 780 work permits. This was supported by more than 235,000 material items, from a large compressor rotor to small nuts and bolts.
Rob Telfer, Woodside Team Lead KGP Onshore Turnaround, who played a key role in planning and delivering the turnaround over several years, said its success came down to the calm and controlled environment maintained on site.
“The volume of work, the number of permits and the sheer size of the workforce made this an exceptionally challenging undertaking, but the thorough planning and disciplined execution meant we were set up for success,” said Rob.
Paul declared that delivering Pluto’s biggest-ever turnaround safely was testament to the people who made it happen.

The Scarborough Energy Project remains on track for first LNG cargo in Q4 2026.
