Pluto turnaround delivers for Pilbara charities
Doing the right thing at Pluto LNG has led to three Pilbara organisations receiving donations totaling $19,500.
Reach Us Pilbara, headspace Karratha and The Salvation Army Karratha Corps each received $6,500 to support their work in the local community.
The donations were generated through an employee and contractor reward and recognition initiative acknowledging positive health, safety and environmental behaviours demonstrated by individuals during the recent turnaround at Pluto LNG, near Karratha.
Turnarounds involve a significant increase in workforce numbers and increased activity to complete critical maintenance work. Maintaining a strong focus on health, safety and environmental performance during this busy period helps to ensure everyone returns home safely each day.
Pluto Turnaround Manager, Paul Ulyett, said the program continued to focus on safety while highlighting how positive actions in the workplace could create broader benefits for the community.
"The initiative reinforced the importance of looking out for one another at work while supporting organisations that provide vital services across the Pilbara," Paul said.
Service Manager, headspace Karratha Scott Neale said the contribution would help strengthen opportunities for young people and their families.
"This initiative helps headspace deliver accessible mental health support, strengthen community connections and improve the wellbeing and futures of young people and their families in Karratha," Scott said.
headspace Karratha plan to use the funding to support a 2027 public art exhibition showcasing and selling artwork.
The exhibition builds on the success of a similar initiative delivered for the first time earlier this year, giving talented young people an opportunity to showcase their creativity while supporting wellbeing, building confidence and strengthening community connections.
Paul said the initiative demonstrated how workplace actions can have positive impacts beyond site boundaries.
“By turning positive actions in the workplace into support for local organisations, the campaign demonstrated how a strong safety culture can create lasting benefits beyond our operations and into the communities where we live and work,” he stated.
