Catwalk corrosion. Challenge accepted.

In the world of marine operations, the battle against corrosion never stops.

But neither do we, with our Onshore Projects team tackling the challenge head-on as part of the Karratha Life Extension Project. Headed by dedicated Construction Team Lead Ruby Yang, the team’s success is a testament to the expertise and resilience of our people at Karratha Gas Plant.

This commitment to excellence was most recently demonstrated in the replacement of corroded steel catwalks on Berth 1 of our LNG jetties, a critical operational area exposed to the harsh elements of the sea.

The team opted for a proactive approach of replacing the aging infrastructure rather than resorting to temporary fixes with a focus on reliability, integrity and longevity. Ruby reported the scope was successfully completed to a high standard.

Despite the complexities of working on an operational jetty, Ruby noted the project was executed seamlessly through meticulous planning and coordination and effective collaboration with contractors and the engineering team.

Moreover, the project was completed within two months.

With safety as the top priority, the team ensured minimal disruption to shipping activities and prioritised the smooth functioning of berthing operations, even in urgent scenarios or adverse weather conditions. The team members’ dedication to an outstanding outcome, coupled with their experience and professionalism, reflected a high standard of workmanship and commitment to excellence.

“They have a high safety performance and quality of work standard. They're good at what they do and take pride in their work," Ruby explained.

As we look ahead to our next challenge of steelwork refurbishment on Berth 1 Mooring Dolphin J, we are confident in our team's capabilities to overcome obstacles and achieve success, setting new benchmarks for innovation and best practices in marine infrastructure maintenance.
